Sportsmouth Tennis Director, Sarah Delfausse Olsen, has just written and published her first children's book, titled, Tennis For Me.
It is a 40 page instructional tennis book written for children ages 2 and up. It is a rhyming book that has bright colorful pictures that grab children's attention as they learn the techniques and terms associated with tennis. "For an overhead, you side-step back, point your finger up, and give the ball a whack" is an example of one page. Another reads, "15,30,40, game - in tennis, love is zero's name."
Sarah wrote this book in 2007 and has been working on the pictures and the publishing piece of it in 2008. She took all of the pictures of her tennis students and designed the illustrations herself. She began her own publishing company, called Sportsmouth Publishing, and has created a whole Sports For Me series. Soccer For Me and Skiing For Me will be available in 2009.
Dodo Cheney, 92, first American woman to win the Australian Open and the current record holder of most Senior National tennis titles (372) said, "Tennis For Me is a wonderful book that is well thought out with rhymes that we will hear children repeating on the tennis courts for years to come. Sarah has created a gift for all tennis-loving parents and grandparents. I look forward to reading Tennis For Me to my great-grandchildren every night."
New England Tennis Hall of Fame inductee, Lee Delfausse, said, "Your children will know how to play tennis before ever stepping on the court."
Thanks to my friend, Debby Yennaco Peretz from lit'l Desi9s for designing the text and for letting me know that it was OK to think outside the box - and who - I might add - has adorable and unique designs of children's names on clothing and accessories at www.litldesi9s.com
